Two schools – one in rural Herefordshire (Bosbury Primary School) and one in inner-city Birmingham (Grove Primary School, Handsworth) – are undertaking a series of exchanges as they explore stories of migration through the medium of vegetables. Even the humble carrot and parsnip, staple ingredients of the English Sunday lunch, made their way to the UK as vegetable migrants. Children have been visiting one another schools and exchanging seeds and ideas. Over 700 children from the two schools have also taken part in ‘Vegetable Show’, a fictitious vegetable painting competition (the best paintings going on tour in the exhibition). Pupils will also get the chance to contribute to the Franz West Gourd Growing Station.
